Watch out Amazon!

Amazon for a long time, has been the go to for eCommerce. Over the past year, I have seen Amazon used to buy textbooks, makeup, movies...and even a wedding registry on Amazon. Crazy how this website has become so ingrained into our day to day culture.

Now Google is seeing a business opportunity in an online shop. Google has been speaking to some major American stores such as Macy's about starting an online store offering one day shipping opposed to Amazon's 1-2 day shipping for Prime members, a 79 dollar annual membership fee. Google also wants to add another component into their online retail experience, coupon and using droid phones as electronic wallets.

Google has been doing a very good job of using different Google technologies to promote already existing technology. such as using their web browser to promote their search engine or their search engine advertising for the web browser.

This seems like another Google innovation for the World to watch out for, but while seeing all these articles about Google taking the next step to become bigger and better. It seems like soon, Google will over extend it's reach.

Web browsers

Earlier today, Wallstreet Journel just released an article about Google Chrome becoming ranked the #2 internet browsing, pushing Mozilla out of the second place into third. Why are browsers so important, it provides a platform to run more technology on apart for the OS and applications on the computer. Google is able to use it's browser to worth with HTML5 allow with other new technologies.

Google Chrome was started as a "innovation" according to a Google spokeswoman. But this innovation has helped Google compete with Microsoft's Internet Explorer guiding users to use Bing. With their browser, they can guild their user to use the Google site engine, one of Google's largest money makers. Currently Google is unsure of how to make money off of the Chrome web browser, but they are sure with the high volume of users, Chrome will soon be bringing money in for the company.

Google isn't just stopping Chrome as a web browser, they are allowing the software evolve into a new OS which Google is planning to put into notebook computers called "Chromebooks"

It will be interesting to keep an eye on the future of Chrome, perhaps it will sometimes even overtake Internet Explorer as the number one broswer. And with Google's repuation of innovation and their success of their OS, Android. Chrome could be the next big thing.

Censoring the Internet

In class, the topic of internet expansion was something touched about. How internet has changed over the years? What would the future internet be like? But there was one topic about the future of internet that was never touched on, Censorship.

Most of us have been introduced to the idea of internet censorship for a long time. Mainly censorship is something horrible viewed in a negative light. Something only horrible governments would do. But, I have noticed something recently, every time I open my Mozilla browser and the Mozilla homepage comes up, there is a little ad. "Congress is trying to censer the internet. Help Mozilla fight for a free and open web." This line of course completely grabbed my attention. Censorship in America? Definitely something worth researching regardless of a class assignment of blogging.

What has brought all this hype is a piece of legislation called "Stop Online Piracy Act". The act is to giving people the right to protect their copyrights and intellectual property online. But Mozilla is saying this will be threat to free speech and social media. In Mozilla's website the claimed to have worked on a letter with Facebook, Google, Twitter, Ebay, and Yahoo. As time progresses, it will be interesting to watch who will be against the act and the step taken to stop it from happening.
